The Worry
Diminutive ceramic heads are mounted on metal stands, as if a formal tribute. The expressions however belie this certainty of esteem. Viewed at eye level, yet fitting in the palm of the hand, these anguished portraits are both monumental and intimate.
Hero Worship
Historically, the inscribed monumental column celebrates a victorious, dispassionate hero. These miniature monuments interrogate this myth as the emotional figures that emerge from these damaged and twisted columns show the human being as a tragic, fallible creature.
The Shape of Air
Small bird-like forms were created in plaster on wire forms and glazed with an oil patina. Installed directly on the wall in response to different site-specific locations, they assume a variety of formations as if a momentary sighting. Appearing to swarm the interior space, these works suggest a vast and nearly invisible wildlife at odds with the constructed universe. A series of 50 works.
Industrial Strength
Ordinary plumbing pipes are normally hidden, an unseen but essential utility of our contemporary existence. These works play on the nature of the hidden and the visible. The suggestive images drawn inside the pipes are fragments and the viewers are at first puzzled about what they are seeing. Upon closer inspection, the image comes into focus and the pipe is fully considered. The goal of this work is to consider the concept of visibility.
